God's Priceless Gift!
"Thanks be to God for
His indescribable gift!"
2 Corinthians 9: 15
In 1915, the world-famous Neiman Marcus retailer sent out a
Christmas card inviting customers to do their holiday
shopping
at the store. In 1926, the card was replaced by a sixteen-page
catalog containing specialty gifts—and the Christmas Book
tradition continues to this day.
Each year, it is filled with unusual and extravagant gifts: hot air
balloons, camels, robots, submarines, Egyptian mummy coffins
(mummy included), and expensive luxury cars. Some gifts are
moderately priced. Others, like a Boeing business jet for
more
than $35 million, are beyond the reach of most customers.
Unlike the gifts in the Neiman Marcus catalog, all of which have
a price tag, God has given to the world a priceless gift: the gift
of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23).
The apostle Paul called the grace of God in Christ an
“indescribable gift”—that is, a priceless gift which no
one
can afford. And yet God has given it to us as a “free
gift
which came to all men” (Romans 5:18).
Have you opened your heart to receive the “free gift”
of God in Christ? Instead of pining for expensive gifts,
why not receive a priceless gift for free?
"God’s chief gift to those
who seek Him is Himself."
Edward B. Pusey
