A Founding Foundation!
"So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of
men and women and all who could hear with understanding
on the first day of the seventh month.
Then he read from it . . .
from morning until midday."
Nehemiah 8: 2-3
In the prestigious American Political Science Review,
a study surveyed the political literature from the era of
America’s founding.
Which writings did Founding Fathers consult when establishing
the new nation? The study showed that the Bible was cited more
frequently than any writings of European political theorists—
especially the book of Deuteronomy.
The beginning of an endeavor requires a firm foundation. When the
nation of Israel sought to regain their nationhood after captivity
in
Babylon and Persia, the leaders did what the Founding Fathers of
America did: They made the Word of God as their guiding source
of spiritual and moral light.
The leaders called the people in the center of Jerusalem and had
Ezra read the Law from daybreak until noon. The people wept as
they remembered that it was their disregard for God’s Word
that
had sent them into captivity seventy years earlier.
Whether you're beginning or continuing a major endeavor,
keep the Word of God central as you go. And don’t deviate
from it.
"The Word of God is
either absolute or obsolete."
