Our King Is Over All!
"And Christ has on His robe and
on His thigh a name written:
KING OF KINGS AND
LORD OF LORDS."
Revelation 19: 16
Even people who have never read the book of
Revelation are familiar with phrases from 17:14
and 19:16 that refer to Christ as King of kings
and Lord of lords. Why?
Because they heard those phrases in the
“Hallelujah Chorus” which concludes Part II
of George Frederic
Handel’s Messiah.
Some of the words in that famous chorus
say: “The kingdom of this world is
become
the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ,
King of kings, for ever and ever, and Lord
of lords, hallelujah, hallelujah!. And He shall
reign for ever and ever.”
The superlative expression in
Hebrew in
“King of kings”—is used numerous times
in Scripture: slave of slaves (Genesis 9:25),
holy of holies (Exodus 26:33-34), vanity of
vanities (Ecclesiastes 1:2), song of songs
(Song of Solomon 1:1).
The Christ we serve is King above
all
earthly kings and Lord above all earthly
lords. And He shall reign forever and
ever! Hallelujah!
"Death may be the king of terrors,
but Jesus is the King of
kings."
Dwight L. Moody
