Acts Of Kindness!
"Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus,
who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I
give thanks, but also all the churches."
Romans 16: 3-4
Lily Ebert was a teenager in Auschwitz. She had nothing, not even
a piece of paper. But an American soldier who helped liberate her
gave her a special gift. It was a German banknote on which he had
scribbled words, “As a start to a new life. Good luck and happiness.”
It was this act of kindness Lily remembered for years. At age ninety,
she rediscovered the note while going through papers with her great
grandson. They quickly tracked down the identity of the soldier—Pvt.
Hyman Schulman, a Jewish-American soldier, and
chaplain’s aide.
Though Schulman passed away in 2013,
Ebert is now in touch with his children.
Everyone needs a word of encouragement, an act of kindness,
and a gift of friendship. Though we may not always be together,
our bonds of fellowship are enduring. And our relationships are
strengthened as we serve each other.
Why not write a note or say
a kind word to a friend today?
"Good words are worth
much
and cost little."
George Herbert
