God Leads As We Follow!
"Because You have been my help, therefore in the
shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows
close behind You; Your right hand upholds me."
Psalm 63:7-8
In a crisis, there is no greater resource than someone who
has successfully navigated a same experience. That person
may say, “I’ve been where you are. If you stay close behind
me, I will guide you through this.” So you follow and
you
survive the crisis, spiritually better for the experience.
Depending on how close we stay to our Guide, a trial can be
transformed from a time of fear to a time of faith. The psalmist,
David, described how he stuck close to God during a trial of his
own. He stayed in the “shadow of His wings”; he followed “close
behind” God, and so close that God upheld David with His “right
hand.” These are metaphors, of course, putting in human terms
what it means to stay close to God when we are suffering. The
result? The king rejoiced in God even while he was suffering.
(Psalm 63:11)
The picture from the Gospels is a good one:
Jesus leads His disciples, with them following close
behind (Matthew 16:24). Today, make sure you stay
close to God, following Him throughout your trial.
"Joy is delight at God’s grace which
enables us to endure our trials."
